It is actually possible to assign it to any ship via relatively simple save editing... Not sure why you should do it, just feel like I should mention it, since it seems the only way to use it with anything other than the Interceptor.

It might be worth the trouble if you're hell-bent on aesthetics and getting all the colors right.

That being said, the game still checks if you have the proper DLC installed, and if you don't, it changes the KS laser back to the usual one upon loading the save. So you can't just mod this weapon in, you still have to qualify with a proper DLC on your HDD.
